Malda violence escalates BJP delegation to meet Prez today
A delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will meet President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday to discuss the Malda violence incident amid a war of words with the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal.
They will meet the President around 2pm on to talk about the issue. On January 3, a mob had set the Kaliachak police station and several vehicles on fire in protest against a hate speech by a right-wing leader.

On Friday, right wing outfits, including VHP and Bajrang Dal, protested outside the Banga Bhawan in the Capital against the violence in Malda. The demonstrators climbed over police barricades and shouted slogans against West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

Karuna Prakash of VHP condemned the incident and sought Centre’s intervention in the matter. He sought urgent action against the guilty and said his organisation will hold more demonstrations across the country against the incident.
On Tuesday, the BJP had apprised Union home minister Rajnath Singh of the law and order situation in the state and had demanded a probe into the Malda violence incident.
The BJP has accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of backing the perpetrators, adding that the violence in Malda was not a communal incident but a planned attack. The TMC has, however, accused the BJP of spreading communal venom ahead of the state assembly polls this year.
The West Bengal CM Banerjee has said that the violence was nothing more than a localised problem and claimed that the state government was taking appropriate action.
