Here the news about kolkata hit ans run case.....
Police say they have clinching
evidence against Sambia. The first is the statement of a constable from south
traffic guard, who identified Sambia at the wheel that morning. "It was
with this constable that Sambia had an argument at Kidderpore Road crossing,"
said a source, adding that two other "uniformed men" have identified
Sambia. Officers wouldn't say if the other two are military personnel. This
tallies with what Sk Sanu, Sambia's friend and grandson of Bowbazar blast
convict Rashid Khan, has told police, say sources. Police don't believe Sanu's
claim that he was in his friend Johnnie's Skoda, and not Sambia's Audi, during
the accident. "Johnnie or his family don't own a car," said a source.
Lalbazar officers refused to say how many people were in the Audi.
"Let us record the statements of a few other Army personnel," said an investigator. Second, Sambia's mobile phone has been tracked in the vicinity of the accident site. Tower locations and CCTV footage indicate Sambia's elder brother Ambia was at home on Wednesday night and left only after 7am on Thursday.
In contrast, Sambia's tower
locations show he was at various night clubs after initially going near his
inlaws residence at Karaya.Forensic scientists will compare DNA from blood
samples taken from the Audi with Sambia, say police.Third, police say they have
received a tip that the Audi driver was wearing a blue coloured jacket that
morning. "From the evidence we have collected so far, we know that Sambia
was carrying a blue jacket with him," said a source.
"This is the method we adopted to arrest Sambhunath Kow and Gopal Tewary," said an officer, explaining that they were trying to identify and cut off everyone helping the absconders. Everyone who called the Sohrabs or received a call from them is being called to Lalbazar, said an officer. From the kin of Sanu and Johnnie, police have a good idea of who Sambia hung around with. "We are seriously investigating a theory that they were racing cars around Port and Kona Expressway," an officer said.
Sambia Sohrab, the 24-year-old son of Trinamool leader Md
Sohrab, was arrested from a central Kolkata hideout late on Saturday as the
prime accused in the hit-and-run death of an IAF corporal during R-Day
rehearsals on Red Road last Wednesday.
The arrest came close to midnight, hours after Kolkata Police finally named
Sambia as the one at the wheel of the rampaging Audi and Trinamool distanced
itself from Sohrab and his son.
Police were tracking a mobile phone being used
by Sambia and zeroed in on him soon after he took a call late on Saturday
night, say sources. He was picked up from Beckbagan near his in-laws' house,
say sources. He faces charges of murder and criminal conspiracy.Earlier in the day, the Special Investigation Team had named Sambia as the prime suspect. "We have more or less identified him (Sambia) as the man behind the wheel," said joint CP-crime Debashish Boral. Sambia, who married on January 5, is a businessman and spends most of his time in China. Police raided 10 locations in Kolkata, including the houses of a couple of his acquaintances and friends, over the past two days but found no trace of him.
